About Ju Li
My interest in psychology began when I was working with children while waiting for my STPM results. I connected well with the children and had a soft spot and patience for children who were not meeting expected academic or behaviour outcomes. As I connected empathetically with them and supported them through creative approaches, I observed that their learning and difficult behaviour gradually improved over time. This intrigued me to develop a deeper understanding of child development.
My expertise is in the area of child and education psychology, parenting and play therapy. I was a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, HELP University for 10 years before joining SEED Connections.
As a play therapist, I work with children who have experienced challenging transitions or trauma to provide them with a safe space to explore and process the difficult feelings they experienced. I provide consultation to parents and teachers to address issues of developmental difficulties and challenging behaviours so that they can be effective in parenting and teaching. I also work closely with schools to support the mental health of their students through talks and emotional literacy programmes.
I speak regularly at conferences and workshops for parents, teachers and students and have been invited for media engagements on topics pertaining to children’s development.
My passion is to see children develop holistically and I work to encourage and empower parents, teachers and the community to be agents that will promote and sustain healthy psychological development for children. Being a parent myself, I understand that parenting in today’s fast moving society is challenging. My hope is that my work and service would contribute to the strengthening of families and society.
Areas of expertise: play therapy, clinical screenings and assessments, parenting and child-focused workshops, training, parental coaching, creative supervision, expressive art workshops and trainings
